After a brief trip up to the Urban Wildlife Centre, we were advised of the new plan for the day and set off in the car towards Brownsea Island to meet Amanda and her volunteer party to do some proper conservation work – Rhododendron clearing.  Nigel checked that we knew our way there, with Renukas map reading abilities, Laura’s calm nature in any situation, and me behind the wheel, we told Nigel not to worry about us and set off.

Reptile Hunting

As the third week of our placement starts, we have been working on the design of our dipping platform, and also ventured out onto the heath, to see the array of reptiles and butterflies.  Here’s a little look at one of the critters we saw!

Despite the earlier drizzling rain, we put on our brave faces and followed Noel for todays task – we were to solve water problems at the more accessible part of the heath.  The best thing about this neck of the reserve is that even if the weather is horrible, at least the views are immense!

Hello again all

The 3 Bournemouth University students are back and ready for action after the Bank Holiday weekend!  So far we’ve taken on manual labour at Lorton Meadow, manual labour at Brownsea, and gues what, you got it, orchid counting at Corfe Mullen Meadow!

All this manual labour and orchid counting, really can get to a guy!
